When did Microsoft buy Namco Bandai?

Post by dsquadron214 » Thu Oct 23, 2008 11:09 am

Just wondering when Namco-Bandai is going to make it public that they are now taking their orders from Redmond WA. Since the company seems to be producing more and more XBox exclusive titles. Maybe that's why the XBox 360 is outselling the PS3 in Japan for the past two quarters. I guess the age old strategy does work after all; If you can't beat 'em ... BUY 'EM.

XBox is not outselling PlayStation 3 in Japan.

Actually, the Xbox 360 started selling out pretty well in Japan, and was beating the PS3 for a long time until back in September last year. Now though, the PS3 is in the lead between the Xbox 360 and PS3 in Japan.

As for Namco being owned by Microsoft, that's just rumors. ;) Namco is still Namco, and their choices for putting their games on the Xbox was their own decisions.

Microsoft just offers substantially more money to developers for exclusives.

Not to forget the company get pretty excited when they can release their game in a metal tin box with exclusive stuff ;)

Doesn't Microsoft also pay a little to the companies to make them try to release limited editions of games? Dunno, just wondering if anybody knows.

Namco still makes games for Wii. That's something none of the Microsoft-owned companies have done this gen. Sure, some Microsoft owned compnies have released DS games (Blue Dragon sequel in Japan, Viva Pinata, etc), but none have had a retail disc release for Wii or PS3, IIRC. Closest thing to such was the DKC games coming to VC on Wii.

Offhand for Wii Namco has Tales of Symphonia sequel, We Cheer (um?), We Ski (um?), and a remake of the first Klonoa game (Japan only, for now) this year. Plus plans for a full-fledged tales game later on. I'm sure I'm forgetting a few here and there too.
Friendship, sorrow, rivalry, and the viability of 2D sensabilities in an industry obsessed with 3D. There's so much more I wanted to learn from you, Klonoa.
