Good news BRAVEPIRATE, I lowered the minimum score for Xevious to 80,000.

Sweet! Now if only I could get to 80,000 first...Some good news though; I at least secure my name at the top of the high score list in Xevious at my local arcade.

I need to give you some tips for Xevious. Hmmmm....let me think. Well first of all, never stop firing. Even if it makes your fingers numb, keep shooting unless you absolutely know there won't be any enemies. #2: It helps to know where the Special Flags are. Depending on your machine's DIP switches, it will either give you an extra life, or 10,000 points. #3: Stay towards the bottom of the screen. A lot of enemies can quickly kill you at the top of the screen, and it also makes it harder to dodge ground enemies' bullets. #4: The ground targets that can move around,(not the little tanks, the other ones that can shoot) always kill them, the more you leave behind, the harder the air targets get. That's about all I have to tell. And just look at the scores it got me.

Oh and one more thing, ask the operator at your arcade if he could change the settings on that Xevious, perhaps if you payed him. 5 lives; extra life at 10,000; and easy difficulty. Ask him, you never know what might happen.

Could you tell me more about these special flags and where they are?

If you've ever played Rally-X, there are flags you have to get, one of which has a red "S" on it. In Xevious, if you find it, gets you an extra life. It's hard to explain where they are, so I'll just direct you here: http://strategywiki.org/wiki/Xevious/Walkthrough#Flag_locations

Wow! So getting all four of those flags could get me 40,000 extra points? In that case, 100,000 points actually sounds probable!

Well, in turn, yes. But it's not as easy as it sounds. Even I have trouble getting to the fourth one. And even when you get to them, it takes skill to find, and then collect them. I want you to memorize where each one is. And that's actually 44,000 points, since actually finding them still gets you 1,000. It could also just give you an extra life too, dont forget about that.

I just checked the Xevious machine at my local arcade today. My high score had been beaten; I must now get over 70,000 to my name at the top again. Back to practice :P ! But, just to make sure, you said the secret flags can be acquired on the arcade ports, right? Maybe they just found flags, and if I play really well next time and find a flag or two, I can have the highest score again, right?

Yes, the special flags are on the arcade version. I'm starting to wonder what kind of Xevious machine this is. Xevious, being manufactured in 1982-3, didn't feature hi-score saving at all. Unless the arcade operator leaves it on all the time, I don't understand how your score stays on the screen day after day.
